IF YOU NEED ME, CALL ME, NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE, NO MATTER HOW FAR
New York is amazing, yes.
New York can also be a bitch.
Not, I’m going to talk sassy and snap my fingers at you, bitch…
So you can understand why then, it is always a breath of fresh air when you meet a genuinely selfless caring person here. Someone who you just want to hug straight away (maybe this is just me, and would explain many awkward situations if so) and makes you feel like everything is still doable and to keep trucking away.
Philip Frabosilo is that guy.
Yeah, so I’m totally into this dude.
Not sexually, (for all you creepers who just had that thought – I know you did) but in a “I feel warm and fuzzy and want you to adopt me” kind of way.
Philip Frabosilo you may say. Who the hell is that?
WHO THE HELL ISN’T HE!
Phil Frabosilo is the nicest New York cab driver out…literally…the guy is a pastor.
Frabosilo, a lifelong Williamsburg resident, has been shuttling frazzled New Yorkers to their chosen destinations for over 34 years.
He started being a cab driver way back in the day, so as to pursue his first love in life – fishing.
(As you do in such a vast aquatic environment as NYC?)
Every inch of space is decorated with uplifting sayings and stuffed animals.
(I’m not even going to address the health and safety issues going on around those toys.)
Pastor Phil offers free candy and newspapers to startled passengers who recognize immediately this is not your typical cab driver. Between fares, he picks up food from restaurants and delivers it to homeless shelters.
Every passenger receives a business card with instructions to call Philip should they wish to donate clothing or if they would like to learn more about his religious work.
(voted one of the top ten best designed business cards in NYC)
I am far from religious, but think it is so important for people like Phil to keep pushing this estranged notion of ‘kindness’ back into the heart of New Yorkers.
It just makes you feel good knowing that not every asshole out there wants to ruin your life and that on any day, you may have the pleasure of driving with the nicest New Yorker out.
So in the spirit of Mr Frabosilo, next time your one the street, refrain from snarling at every person you see, and instead, turn that painful hatred into into a smile.
It may be painful for some but trust me, I tried it and it won’t kill you BUT it will make this city that second more livable for someone else!
